Oriental carpet Mahal (Persia) – 207
Description
Oriental carpet Mahal (Persia)
Period: 19th century
Dimensions: cm 393 x 720
Persia, which broadly corresponds to modern-day Iran, has an outstanding tradition of craftsmanship. Thanks to its location in the heart of the East, it has played a predominant role in the history of oriental carpets.
The term “Mahal” denotes the best carpets from the town of the same name, which is situated in the central western province of Markazy, near the capital Arak, one of the most important textile centres in the country.
This specimen stands out for its soft wools and warm, harmonious colours, dominated by red. Its all-over floral design is extremely stylised and has no central medallion.
